The series and designs focus on the story of a panda navigating the world around him from cub to adult. Launched in 2019 with new editions of the Panda Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins, the first set debuted with a design focusing on the subject as the greater story and has continued with the theme of love and family every year. The concept and series will conclude with the tenth and last design in this special theme in 2028. The 2025-dated set consists of 14 pieces, including 6 premium bullion strike standard weight gold and silver commemorative coins and 8 proof quality gold, platinum and silver commemorative coins ranging in sizes of 1 kilogram to one gram.

In 2016, the Chinese giant panda was listed as a vulnerable species instead of an endangered species. This is due to the immense efforts in China as well as many world Zoos who have contributed their dedication and efforts to increasing the population of this unique species. As such, the 2025 edition features an important element to the design of the Panda Coin story, and that is a family of three – a mother and two cubs. In the 43 years of the panda coin design, the depiction of three pandas in one motif is very rare.

The coins are jointly minted by the Shenyang Mint, the Shanghai Mint and the Shenzhen National Treasure Mint on behalf of the People’s Bank of China and designed by artist Huang Qin who is based in Shanghai. Her primary theme depicts a scene of warm interaction between a mother and her cubs. An adult mother panda sits on the grass surrounded by two young panda cubs. One cub nestles on her mother's lap, the other cub climbs up a high rock. Above and along the upper right rim are the specifications of each metal and weight. To the lower left is the coin’s denomination. The reverse side on all weights and face values shares the same design, that of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The name of the country        (People’s Republic of China) placed above the Temple along the upper edge. The year of issue 2025 is shown below.

The panda range is solely distributed by the China Gold Coin Group Company Ltd. and through authorised distribution partners. For additional information, please visit https://www.chinagoldcoin.net/panda-coins
