Celebrity Mint’s Gold Mike Tyson Coin Goes Viral With Dana White At Fanatics Fest NYC
The world of sports memorabilia met rare coins in spectacular fashion at Fanatics Fest NYC.
Celebrity Mint, founded in 2023 by the Duncan Group of Houston’s U.S. Coins & Jewelry, is basking in the afterglow of the inaugural Fanatics Fest NYC (Aug. 16-18).
The world of sports memorabilia met rare coins in spectacular fashion at the star-studded event – which featured the biggest names in sports and entertainment, from Tom Brady to Derek Jeter to Jay-Z – with a viral interaction between UFC President Dana White and Celebrity Mint co-founder Kenny Duncan Jr.
As White walked the floor of the Javits Center, Duncan approached him with a pure 0.5-gram gold Mike Tyson legal tender trading coin, part of the company’s debut Legends Series. Despite Duncan’s offer to gift the coin, White insisted on purchasing the product – which retails at celebritymint.com for $179.99 – and handed Duncan $600 in cash. The spontaneous exchange quickly went viral, garnering attention from TMZ Sports and amassing hundreds of thousands of views on social media.
“It was very generous of Dana, and we will make sure to pay it forward,” Duncan said. “It was a surreal experience, not just for what it represented in that instant, but for what it symbolized in the context of the journey we’ve been on since launching Celebrity Mint last year. When we first embarked on this adventure, we knew we were setting out to create something unique in the world of collectibles and memorabilia. We wanted to redefine what it means to hold a piece of history in your hands.”
White later highlighted the Celebrity Mint trading coin on his Instagram in a video post that has garnered more than one million views. Celebrity Mint also gifted a gold Tyson coin to rapper Travis Scott at the event and interacted with UFC star Michael Chandler and online streaming sensation IShowSpeed, introducing rare coins to new generations of fans and collectors.
Celebrity Mint aims to revolutionize the collectibles market by uniting sports legends and iconic celebrities with the allure of precious metals. Its inaugural Legends Series – which debuted at New York Comic Con in 2023 with wrestling superstar Ric Flair – reimagines legal tender coins as trading cards. Each card is authenticated and certified by Numismatic Grading Company (NGC) through its coin grading arm, NGCX.
“Over the past year, we’ve built a team that shares our passion and commitment to quality,” Celebrity Mint’s Ryan Fisher said. “This team has been instrumental in turning our ideas into tangible products. We’re taking our love of coins and decades of experience in numismatics and addressing a critical market need—creating collectibles that offer real, intrinsic value.”
Up next for Celebrity Mint is an exclusive collaboration with baseball’s all-time hit leader Pete Rose. Releasing in mid-September, the limited-edition series of gold and silver trading coins will include the first sports collectibles to be CGC Signature Series certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®). They also mark the first precious metal legal tender collectibles for Rose. Also on the horizon is a release with boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr., featuring high-relief Signature Series Coins (2 oz., 5 oz. and 10 oz. silver) certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and autographed by Mayweather.
“We’re just getting started,” Duncan said. “There’s still so much potential to be unlocked, and we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what our products can achieve. We’re not just creating collectibles; we’re shaping the future of memorabilia, one piece at a time."
