Struck in Mexico City and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of Bimetallic; center 0.65 copper, 0.1 nickel, 0.25 zinc; outer ring 0.92 copper, 0.06 aluminum, 0.02 nickel from a mintage of 2,515,000 struck.
Obverse: On the alpaca (German silver) center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the bronze-aluminum outer ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.
Reverse: To the left of center, a forward-facing bust of Mexican poet and Nobel Laureate Octavio Paz, the head turned partway to the right. In the field to the right of the bust, extending onto the outer ring, a famous verse by the poet: Todo es presencia, / todos los siglos  son / esta Presente (“Everything is presence, / all the centuries are / this Presence”). Below the verse, a reproduction of Paz’s signature. At the top of the outer ring, $20, with AÑO [date] below and the mintmark M at far left.
