The 2000-Mo 20 Pesos is part of a series of Coinage Reform of 1992 coins struck from 2000-2001. The specific variety is Type A2, Xiuhtecuhtli, Bi-metallic. Struck in Mexico City and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of Bimetallic; center 0.65 copper, 0.1 nickel, 0.25 zinc; outer ring 0.92 copper, 0.06 aluminum, 0.02 nickel from a mintage of 14,850,000 struck.
Obverse: On the alpaca (German silver) center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the bronze-aluminum outer ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.
Reverse: At the center, a left-facing figure of the god Xiuhtecuhtli. Above the figure, FUEGO NUEVO (New Fire); to the right of the figure, $20 and the mintmark M; at lower right, XIUHTECUHTLI. Surrounding the center on the outer ring, a pattern of stylized sun-rays from the Aztec Calendar Stone. At the bottom of the ring, divided by the lowermost ray, AÑO / [date].
